God is Speaking to You!
By James W. Goll— July 3, 2025
For God does speak—now one way, now another—
though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds he may speak in
their ears and terrify them with warnings.
Job 33: 14-16
Hello Friends,
This is James W. Goll with God Encounters Ministries bringing you the monthly word of exhortation for July: God Is Speaking—Today.
We believe God spoke in the past. Some believe He’ll speak again in the future. But far too many of us struggle to believe this simple truth: God is speaking now—and He’s speaking to you.
Let’s lean in.
Is God Still Speaking?
Yes, He is.
The question is not whether God is speaking—but whether we’re listening.
Job 33:14 declares,
“For God may speak in one way, or in another, yet man does not perceive it.”
Dreams. Visions. A whisper. A thunder. God’s voice takes many forms—but His heart is always the same: to be known. He speaks once, He speaks twice, and still we often miss it. Yet He keeps pursuing. He keeps speaking. Why? Because He desires relationship more
than performance.
The Voice of the Lord
Psalm 29 gives us a breathtaking picture of God’s voice:
- The voice of the Lord is powerful.
- The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.
- The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness.
- The voice of the Lord causes life to spring forth.
When God speaks, it’s not just for volume—it’s for transformation.
His voice breaks hard places. It births new life. It releases glory.
Ways God Speaks
God is not limited in how He communicates. Scripture shows us over and over again that His voice comes through:
- Dreams and visions (Job 33)
- A voice in a trance (Acts 10)
- Angels (Revelation 11)
- The sound of many waters (Revelation 1)
- The whisper in the garden (Genesis 3)
- The army of God in the trees (2 Samuel 5)
- A still, small voice (1 Kings 19)
- The written Word turned living (Psalm 119:105)
- Prophetic utterance, wise counsel, heavenly encounters, and yes—even a donkey! (2 Peter 2:16)
- And most clearly: through His Son, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1:2).
Preparing Our Hearts to Hear
God’s voice is not earned—but it is stewarded.
There is often a correlation between the Word we’ve stored in our hearts and the revelation that comes. When we go into worship, remove distractions, walk in forgiveness, and quiet our soul, we prepare ourselves to receive.
I’ve learned over the years that I hear God most consistently in these places:
- In worship
- In waiting
- In watching
- In meditating on the written Word
- In walking in the Spirit
- In living the Beatitudes
It’s not a formula. It’s a relationship. But it is a divine dance.
Draw Near—He’s Already Close
I sense the Holy Spirit saying:
“I want to speak to you today. Will you listen?”
This is a season not just to remember His voice—but to recognize it in real time. God speaks once. He speaks twice. And He doesn’t stop. He wants intimacy with you more than you want it with Him.
Let’s draw near.
A Prayer to Hear
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for still speaking today. We open our ears, our hearts, our spirits. We quiet our minds and welcome Your voice. Speak to us in dreams, in whispers, in the Word. Make the Logos become Rhema. Remove distractions, restore clarity, and awaken our hearts to relationship. We declare: God is speaking—and we are listening. Amen.
With expectation and encouragement,
James W. Goll
