Building a Hedge of Protection—
in the Evil Day
By James W. Goll— July 10, 2025
“Therefore put on the whole armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:13
Hello friends!
This is James Goll, and I want to share this month’s prophetic podcast. It’s always a joy to connect with you.
Today, I want to bring you an important message about building a hedge of protection around the prophetic ministry—especially for those called to the gift and office of the prophet.
Theme Verse:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
— Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV)
This verse reminds us why we must stand firm in the evil day, fully armored and prepared. The prophetic ministry is a powerful force in God’s kingdom, but it often faces intense spiritual attack—because the enemy knows that if he can silence the prophets, the people will scatter.
Spiritual Warfare Against the Prophetic
The enemy often targets prophets because, as Scripture says, “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.” Doctrines like cessationism try to silence God’s voice today by shutting down prophetic revelation.
This decade, which I call the “decade of the mouth,” has seen unprecedented attacks to shut off the hearing and speaking of God’s voice. That’s why standing firm in God’s full armor is so vital.
Why Pray for the Prophets?
You may have heard me speak before about praying for the prophets. I’ve talked about angelic warriors, gatekeepers, and the spiritual atmosphere around your next assignment.
But today I want to focus on something just as critical: the hedge of protection every prophet needs.
There’s a difference between the gift of prophecy, the ministry of prophecy, and the office of the prophet. If you want to explore this further, I encourage you to read my book The Prophet: Creating and Sustaining a Life-Giving Prophetic Culture, where I unpack these distinctions fully.
Changing the Narrative—With Psalm 91 as Our Foundation
I’ve seen it—and maybe you have too: prophets facing premature death, health challenges, lack of support, and isolation. These stories are real. But they are not the final word.
We can flip the narrative.
Instead of burnout and breakdown, let’s align with the promises of Psalm 91 and declare a different destiny over the prophets and prophetic voices. This psalm is more than comfort—it’s a prophetic blueprint for protection and longevity.
-
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge…”
-
“He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways…”
-
“With long life I will satisfy them and show them My salvation…”
These aren’t vague comforts—they are covenant promises. And they are especially critical for those carrying the burden of God’s word.
Let’s speak life over the prophets:
- Long life instead of early death.
- Health instead of affliction.
- Abundance instead of lack.
- Honor instead of isolation.
When we as the Body of Christ surround prophetic voices with spiritual, emotional, and practical support, we fulfill the spirit of Psalm 91. We create a hedge of protection.
We help prophets not just survive—but thrive.

Let’s Pray Together
Father, thank You for Your prophetic voice that guides Your people. We ask for a hedge of protection around every prophet and prophetic ministry worldwide. Strengthen them with Your armor. Bless them with long life, healing, boldness, and abundance. May Your purposes be fulfilled through them as they stand firm in the evil day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
With you and encouraging you in this vital ministry,
James Goll
